Following last week’s visit to Highgate Cemetery, we’ve decided to embrace our sunnier sides this weekend with Beach East. Starting this Saturday and running up until 31st August, Stratford’s Olympic Park will be transformed into a beach, complete with a thousand tonnes of sand spread over 2200 square metres, a children’s paddling pool that covers a third of the Olympic Pool, two beach bars (‘Coconut Joe’s Cocktail and Mocktail Bar’ and the spectacularly named ‘Pub Tropicana’), as well as a variety of food stalls and a host of sporting events that will be run over the seven weeks.
Beach East will be positioned between the canal, Olympic Stadium and Stratford parks boasting great views and taking the prestigious title of the UK’s largest urban beach.
For the duration of the Beach’s opening, numerous events will light up this unique spectacle – notably a carnival on August 5th celebrating one year until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and a closing party on the August Bank Holiday weekend, as well as a celebration of National Paralympic day on July 26th.
Beach East opens its doors on July 11th and will be open daily from 10am – 10pm and is free. For more information see the link below.
